South Dakota is Corny
We knew the Corn Palace would be good (I mean, it’s a Palace. Made out of corn.) but boy were we wrong. It was amazing! Our trip coincided with the 2008 Polka Festival. Enter 300 polka-dancing, lederhosen-wearing, corn-eating geriatrics and you have quite a scene:
Whaaa??
Apparently Boston area weatherman Bruce Schwoegler likes his Polka just as much as the next… weatherman. We looked it up, he is actually from Wayland.
Then it was on to find a place with some pizza, maybe some games. Oh and robots. We could really go for some robots. Jackpot!!
Next we made our way across several hundred miles of nothingness (except for a 60-foot bull’s head and an upside down hammer) and checked out Wall Drug. If you have been to South Dakota before, you probably know it well. If not, you may have heard about its hundreds of billboards lining Route 90 across South Dakota and the neighboring states offering free ice water, 5 cent coffee and an abundance of kitschy paraphernalia. Apparently they spend $400,000 EACH YEAR on advertising. Remember, this is a drug store in the middle of South Dakota, i.e. nothing. Becca enjoyed it. Personally, I’d rather go to Gigglebees. I mean, pizza. And Robots!

Becca (and Justin too),
I hope you thoroughly enjoyed SD’s finest landmarks (is it sad that I have seen the corn palace at least 3 times, and can probably track my childhood by how many times I have been to Wall Drug) I hope the robotic dinosaur is still there & you ate the really good donuts to go with the coffee.
